idea for a short animation

I would like to make a short animation that tells an almost biographical account of a out casts life. To do this I would like to have the story begin in a dusty old house. In the house there is a picture on a table covered in webs, with a sepia picture of a happy family scene that had been taken on a day out or a family celebration. The scene would then zoom in and become the event that’s in the photograph. The characters contort and morph either into ugly versions of them selves or into monsters for brief moments. The reason for this is to show the ugliness in their hears. The camera flies past them to a character that’s in the background, possibly sitting in a shop doorway, or under a bridge. The character (still to be worked out) is talking to his pet, discussing why he/she has been abandoned.
The idea is to suggest that the young character has been rejected by society as he is different, better maybe. Society in the small animation would be nasty, tainted, mean and cold, possibly how it may become in real world society.
I am thinking that the character will show strong traits of goodness and kindness, but I would like to avoid stereotypes.

Another scenario for this scene is to highlight homelessness. The house with the photograph could illustrate how we all take having a home for granted. The photograph could be how life for the homeless person used to be before what ever events lead to his/her demise. It might be nice to show the image as a cardboard cut out, and when the camera passes by one falls over.
If this scenario is worked I think it would be great to have the pet replaced with a pigeon, being fed what ever food the homeless person has.
